Day 1.
Arrive in Ulaanbaatar and transfer to your hotel. After some time to rest, have lunch and begin a short city tour. Visit Gandan Monastery, the main Buddhist center in Mongolia, and see the large Buddha statue inside the temple. Continue to the National Museum of Mongolia to learn about the country’s history and culture. Later, walk around Sukhbaatar Square, the central square of the city. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner and prepare for the journey ahead.

Day 2.
Head south across the wide Mongolian steppe to Baga Gazriin Chuluu, a unique granite rock formation rising from the flat landscape. The area is quiet and remote, with rocky hills, small caves, and open space in every direction. After arriving at the ger camp, enjoy lunch and then take a short walk to explore the rocks, climb up for a better view, and take in the peaceful surroundings of the steppe.
Accommodation: Tourist ger camp. Meals: Full board

Day 3.
Drive to the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park and visit Yol Valley (Yoliin Am), a narrow canyon set between high rock walls. Walk through the valley along a small stream, surrounded by steep cliffs. Even in early summer, parts of the ice can still be seen in the shaded areas of the canyon. Birds of prey such as eagles and vultures are often seen above the cliffs. This is a refreshing contrast to the open desert landscapes, with cooler air and dramatic scenery.

Day 4.
Drive to the Khongor Sand Dunes (approx. 195 km), the largest sand dunes in Mongolia. Known as the “Singing Dunes,” they rise from the flat desert and stretch for many kilometers. Climb the dunes for wide views of the desert, and enjoy the changing light over the sand. A small river and green vegetation can be seen at the base of the dunes, creating a strong contrast with the dry landscape. Visit a local camel herder family and experience a short camel ride. There will also be time to walk and explore the dunes at your own pace.
Accommodation: Tourist ger camp. Meals: Full board

Day 5.
Drive to Bayanzag (approx. 140 km), known as the Flaming Cliffs. This area is famous for its red sandstone cliffs, saxaul forest, and wide open desert landscape. It was here that dinosaur fossils and the first dinosaur eggs were discovered in 1922 by Roy Chapman Andrews, making this place known around the world as the Flaming Cliffs and an important site in paleontology. Standing here, you are visiting one of the most important dinosaur fossil sites in the world. Walk among the red cliffs and explore the area. In the late afternoon, as the sun sets, the cliffs glow in deep red colors — a moment that makes this place truly special.
Accommodation: Tourist ger camp. Meals: Full board

Day 6.
Head north toward Central Mongolia and stop at the ruins of Ongi Monastery, once one of the largest monasteries in the country. Located along the quiet Ongi River, this site marks the transition from the Gobi Desert to the central steppe. The monastery was destroyed during the 1930s, but the remaining walls and foundations still reflect Mongolia’s Buddhist history. Take some time to walk around the ruins and enjoy the open landscape before continuing to a nearby ger camp for the night.

Day 7.
Drive to Kharkhorin (approx. 130 km), the site of the ancient capital of the Mongol Empire, founded in 1235 by Ögedei Khan. Once an important center along the Silk Road, Kharkhorin was a meeting place for traders, travelers, and envoys from different parts of the world. Although the city was later destroyed, it remains one of the most important historical sites in Mongolia. Visit Erdene Zuu Monastery, built using stones from the ruins of the old capital, and explore the nearby Karakorum Museum to learn more about Mongolia’s history. You will also have time to walk around the local market.
Accommodation: Tourist ger camp. Meals: Full board

Day 8.
Drive to Hustai National Park (approx. 190 km), home to the wild Takhi horses, also known as Przewalski’s horses, the only truly wild horses left in the world. Explore the park by vehicle and on short walks, looking for the wild horses in their natural habitat. The species was reintroduced to Mongolia in 1992 and now lives freely in this protected area. You may also see other wildlife and birds while enjoying the open steppe and hills of the park. Return to the camp and relax.
